About
Teo is nineteen when the story begins, a Sump orphan who pushes the Mercy House corpse-cart through the poorest streets of Calder Reach. He is thin, quiet on the outside and sarcastic on the inside, and he counts everything: stairs, coins, bodies. Counting is a sin in the Canon of the Flame. Teo does it anyway, because numbers are the only things in the Sump that never lie to him.
